In the dark days of my supermarket grocery shopping, I was in constant awe of the uniform vegetable offerings. Green rows of cabbages with not a leaf out of place, orange carrots of equal length and taste, each vying to conform.
But each offering was barren of what I have now grown accustomed to – the small inconsistencies which make each piece of produce unique, the variations in soil across a single row which lend an extra layer of taste or even shape to the row’s harvest.
Escape to the Country
On a cold February morning in 2003, my husband and I braved the gale force winds, threw our last remaining memories of an urban life into our car and drove to our future. Our new (well, 200 year old to be exact) home in the country. Getting the house livable was project number one.
But I still remember that cold Sunday morning when I took the first step towards what has now become my passion. Gardening - in all it's shapes and forms.
I can still picture myself clearing cobwebs from the upstairs windows, filling the first tray of compost, gently patting it down, dispersing some basil seed, placing a small plastic hood on top of my new “children” and finally stepping back , wondering - what do I do next?

Over 20 years later, we now have an eclectic mix of garden rooms and themed areas that we love, with everything from fruit to flowers and everything in between.
